Here is my top 4 nerdy wins and 3 fails from this year. I'll start with the fails, to get them over and done with...
Fail #3 - The Death of Amy Pond and RoryWilliams
This is something that extremely angered me. It just had be wanting to slap Steven Moffat in the face. I mean yeah, maybe it was time for The Doctor and the Ponds to go their own ways, but you didn't have to let them die! Of old age!! IN 1928!!! Far out Moffat, get a grip and stop screwing things up, as if 5 episodes to a season wasn't bad enough...
Win #1 - Curiosity Rover
Fail #2 - Lucasfilm Sellout
Well in case you have been living under a rock, George Lucas decided to sell Lucasfilm to Disney for $4.05 billion. Really? Who told you this was a good idea? And now, Disney is making three new Star Wars movies, which are being released in 2015, 16 and 17. Once again I find myself yelling at some rich person for ruining something, but you see my point.
Fail #1 - Fake Nerds
What? Something was worse than Lucas selling out? Yes, yes it was. Two words; Fake Nerds. You may not know what I'm on about when I say 'fake nerds', but I'm talking about all the idiots out there, majority of them girls, who think that because they have their precious Big Bang Theory and their lens-less glasses that they are so nerdy and antisocial, which to them, is kool. They really have just no idea what being a real nerd is. It's having few friends, staying inside a lot and writing blog posts at 1am because you've really got nothing better to do with your time. So please, make it your new year's resolution to eradicate all of these fake nerds.
Now that that's out of the way, we can get onto the good stuff!
Win #4 - Lego Lord of the Rings
When I first heard about this coming out almost a year ago, I was really excited (I'm into that sort of thing in case you didn't know). Now that it's actually out and on store shelves, it's just so much better. They are great movies, and in my opinion, are a little more deserving of a Lego series than Sponge Bob.
Win #3 - New TARDIS Interior
With the release of the new Doctor Who Christmas special, along with introducing the lovely new assistant Miss Clara Oswin-Oswald, the new episode showed us the inside of the brand new TARDIS, which I love. The old one was great and everything, but that's what is was - old. Check out the picture below, and let me know what you think.
Win #2 - The Transit of Venus
The Transit of Venus occurs when Venus travels between the visible gap between the Earth and the Sun, giving the Sun a tiny little black spec. Being one of the rarest predicable astronomical phenomena, the transits occur in a pattern that generally repeats every 243 years, with pairs of transits 8 years apart separated by long gaps of 121.5 and 105.5 years apart. I was lucky enough to see it myself, and I must say it was amazing. Some might call it boring, or even a waste of time, but they couldn't be more wrong. It's a once (or twice) in a lifetime opportunity, so jump to it.

The Curiosity Rover touching down on Mars was my favourite thing that happened all year. I mean, landing on the Moon was brilliant, I can't say I was alive to see it live, but it was amazing none the less. But to get to another planet, not just a satellite, now that's really something. The Curiosity Rover was launched from Cape Canaveral on Nov 26 2011, and safely landed on Mars on August 6 2012, completing its 8 month journey through the stars. It just baffles me that humans have done that. Us, the little hairless apes that were mucking about in caves a couple of thousand years ago. We got there. It might be a little dusty, and at times a little cold, but it's another planet, and we got there.
Happy New Year!
Actually they did not die in 1928.
ReplyDeleterory did, amy died in 1922 i believe
ReplyDeleteTo quote Rory Williams' page on TARDIS Wiki:
Delete"He died age 82 in an unknown time period and was buried in Queens, New York."
the gravestone read something along the lines of 'here lies rory williams, 18something - 1928, and amy's was 1922
