A to Z Blogging Challenge - T is for The Name of the Doctor

It has been released that the last episode of Series 7 will be called 'The Name of the Doctor'. When I saw this, and my first thought was 'Oh ok, surely they wont tell everyone his name, maybe it will just show it in Gallifreyan or something' but then, on closer inspection, I panicked. For this episode is written by Steven Moffat. Then my thoughts switched to 'ohgodholyshititsruinedjustleavedrwhoalonemoffatyoufoolyouhavenoideawhatsgoingonjustleavekthanksbye'
On a more positive note, it seems that Clara and River will meet for the first time. Should be interesting...

A to Z Blogging Challenge - D is for Darwin and David and Doctor Who

It was revealed to me some time last week, that in the movie 'Pirates - Band of Misfits', set in 1837, the character Charles Darwin (the naturalist) is voiced by David Tennant, the tenth actor to play Doctor Who. Martin Freeman also has a main role in the film.

'Fun' fact

Mark Wing-Davey, who famously portrayed Zaphod Beeblebrox in the 1981 television series and whose mother appeared in a Peter Davison Doctor Who episode, voices a character called Judge Ghis in Final Fantasy XII.

Doctor Who Fun Fact

Karen Gillan portrayed the Eleventh Doctor's first female companion Amelia Pond. But Amy Pond's younger self is portrayed in the episode The Eleventh Hour by Gillan's real-life cousin, Caitlin Blackwood. Apparently the first time that they met were on set, though I find this hard to believe.

4 Wins and 3 Fails - The best and worst of 2012

Here is my top 4 nerdy wins and 3 fails from this year. I'll start with the fails, to get them over and done with...

Fail #3 - The Death of Amy Pond and RoryWilliams
This is something that extremely angered me. It just had be wanting to slap Steven Moffat in the face. I mean yeah, maybe it was time for The Doctor and the Ponds to go their own ways, but you didn't have to let them die! Of old age!! IN 1928!!! Far out Moffat, get a grip and stop screwing things up, as if 5 episodes to a season wasn't bad enough...

Fail #2 - Lucasfilm Sellout
Well in case you have been living under a rock, George Lucas decided to sell Lucasfilm to Disney for $4.05 billion. Really? Who told you this was a good idea? And now, Disney is making three new Star Wars movies, which are being released in 2015, 16 and 17. Once again I find myself yelling at some rich person for ruining something, but you see my point.

Fail #1 - Fake Nerds
What? Something was worse than Lucas selling out? Yes, yes it was. Two words; Fake Nerds. You may not know what I'm on about when I say 'fake nerds', but I'm talking about all the idiots out there, majority of them girls, who think that because they have their precious Big Bang Theory and their lens-less glasses that they are so nerdy and antisocial, which to them, is kool. They really have just no idea what being a real nerd is. It's having few friends, staying inside a lot and writing blog posts at 1am because you've really got nothing better to do with your time. So please, make it your new year's resolution to eradicate all of these fake nerds.

Now that that's out of the way, we can get onto the good stuff!

Win #4 - Lego Lord of the Rings
When I first heard about this coming out almost a year ago, I was really excited (I'm into that sort of thing in case you didn't know). Now that it's actually out and on store shelves, it's just so much better. They are great movies, and in my opinion, are a little more deserving of a Lego series than Sponge Bob.

Win #3 - New TARDIS Interior
With the release of the new Doctor Who Christmas special, along with introducing the lovely new assistant Miss Clara Oswin-Oswald, the new episode showed us the inside of the brand new TARDIS, which I love. The old one was great and everything, but that's what is was - old. Check out the picture below, and let me know what you think.

Win #2 - The Transit of Venus
The Transit of Venus occurs when Venus travels between the visible gap between the Earth and the Sun, giving the Sun a tiny little black spec. Being one of the rarest predicable astronomical phenomena, the transits occur in a pattern that generally repeats every 243 years, with pairs of transits 8 years apart separated by long gaps of 121.5 and 105.5 years apart. I was lucky enough to see it myself, and I must say it was amazing. Some might call it boring, or even a waste of time, but they couldn't be more wrong. It's a once (or twice) in a lifetime opportunity, so jump to it.

Win #1 - Curiosity Rover
The Curiosity Rover touching down on Mars was my favourite thing that happened all year. I mean, landing on the Moon was brilliant, I can't say I was alive to see it live, but it was amazing none the less. But to get to another planet, not just a satellite, now that's really something. The Curiosity Rover was launched from Cape Canaveral on Nov 26 2011, and safely landed on Mars on August 6 2012, completing its 8 month journey through the stars. It just baffles me that humans have done that. Us, the little hairless apes that were mucking about in caves a couple of thousand years ago. We got there. It might be a little dusty, and at times a little cold, but it's another planet, and we got there.

Happy New Year!
